Nigeria’s ex-Vice President and the Peoples Democratic Party flag bearer in 2019 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has expressed concern over the twelve policemen have been kidnapped in the country.
Unidentified Gunmen had recently abducted 12 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs).
The abductees were said to be abducted on their way to Zamfara from Borno.
The families of the 12 senior police officers, have been worried about the fate of their husbands ever since they were abducted.
The former vice president in response to the incident disclosed that he was concerned that a dozen of police officers charged with the protection of lives and properties were themselves victims of kidnapping.
“I am concerned like many men and women of goodwill that a dozen police officers, who are charged with the protection of our lives and properties, are themselves victims of kidnapping, no resource should be spared to free them,” he said.
It was gathered that the personnel were on their way from Borno State to conduct a special operation in Zamfara State when they were ambushed by gunmen and arrested.
The wife of one of the police officers said she had not heard from her husband for three days until she went to the Borno State police barracks to learn that their husbands had been abducted, and later said two had escaped from the hands of the gunmen and they phoned the headquarters that the rest had been taken away.
She further revealed that she later got a phone call from her husband but only briefly, explaining to her the situation in the hands of their captors.
