Two military personnel, a Major- General and a Colonel, testified at the Kaduna State High Court presided over by Justice Gideon Kurada as the trial of leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (Shi’ites), Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, and wife, Zeenat.
The Shiite leader and wife were charged culpable homicide, and disruption of public peace.
The defendants’ counsel, Femi Falana(SAN), said, “the two witnesses were taken and the trial will continue tomorrow (Thursday).
“The officers were put under cross-examination and they gave evidence of the operation that lasted between the 12th and 14th of December 2015, and the role of the military in the operation.”
The leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzzaky, on September 29 pleaded not guilty to the eight counts against him.
The presiding judge had taken the no-case submission by the IMN leader on August 7, 2020.
However, the presiding judge Justice Kurada fixed September 29, for ruling on the motion after counsel to the defendant, Abubakar Marshall, who took brief for Falana, asked the court to quash the charges.
Kurada, after taking the plea of the IMN leader, adjourned until November 18 and 19 to enable the prosecution present its witnesses.
Heavy security barricaded all routes leading to the court while the court proceedings were ongoing.
