NLC threatens to resume indefinite strike in Niger State

-

Organized labour in Niger has given the state government up to next Tuesday to grant their wishes or face resumed indefinite industrial action.

In a letter to the state governor, which was signed jointly by the chairmen of NLC, Comrade Yakubu Garba, and TUC, Comrade Tanimu Yunusa, made three demands.

The demands are a refund of 30% slashed last salaries for months, conclude the discussion on payment of the outstanding October salaries on or before next Tuesday, and reversal of proposal by the state government to pay local government and state workers November salaries on a percentage basis.

The organized labour reminded the governor of its letter dated July 27, 2020 with reference number OL/NS/040/Vol.2/03 issuing a 21-day ultimatum, and a follow up one dated September 28, 2020 with reference number OL/NS/040/GEN/Vol.2/14, pleading with the state government to refund the slashed amounts from the workers’ salaries since June, 2020.

The letter then warns that failure by the state government to meet the three demands would leave the organized labour with no other option but to resume the earlier suspended indefinite strike, effective midnight of Tuesday, December 1st.
