Scholarship Details:
The number of applicants nominated by the Graduate School of Science to the University of Tokyo, as well as the subsequent nominations by the University of Tokyo to MEXT, will be determined after the application period closes.
During the last application round for the 2023 entrance, each Graduate School was allowed to nominate a maximum of one applicant, and the University of Tokyo could nominate up to three applicants to MEXT.
Scholarship Requirements:
The scholarship is open to international students with exceptional academic achievements who intend to pursue studies in Japan starting in September 2023 as new students in the Master or Doctoral Program at the Graduate School of Science. For applicants who have completed their latest degree program, a minimum final grade point of 2.30 is required. Similarly, current students should have a grade point of 2.30 or higher for their ongoing courses, and they are expected to maintain this academic standard throughout the scholarship program. The calculation of grade points will follow the formula specified by MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology).

How to Apply
Application Procedure
To apply for the MEXT Scholarship, applicants are required to follow the provided guidelines after completing their admission application for the Master’s/Doctoral Program. The guidelines, titled “Instructions for International Students Applying to the Graduate School of Science (Special Selection for International Applicants),” must be adhered to when submitting the necessary documents.
These documents should be prepared in either Japanese or English, utilizing A4 format and software like MS Word. They must be printed double-sided (duplex printing). In the case of documents written in any other language, a corresponding Japanese translation must accompany them.
Please note that submitted documents will not be returned. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that all application forms and required documents are completed accurately and that all accompanying materials are included.
For certain countries where government administrative offices issue graduation certificates and other documents, the University of Tokyo may need to verify with the student’s previous university to confirm the accuracy of the provided information.
